Senior Pastor
Rev. José Daniel Montañez
José Daniel Montañez was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, where he began preaching at the age of 15. He moved to the United States in 1982 to continue his education and received his first ministerial credentials with the Church of God (Cleveland, TN) in 1985.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Religious Studies (1986) from California State University, Long Beach. He also studied at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, where he completed a Master’s degree in Theology and Biblical Studies (1990). Additionally, he pursued graduate-level coursework in Public Administration at California State University, Fresno. He obtained his Doctor of Ministry in Intercultural Studies (2003) from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia.
He has served as a youth leader, pastor, church planter, educator, and has participated on various church boards and committees at both the state and international levels. On two occasions, he had the privilege of serving as Executive Director of the Association for Hispanic Theological Education (AETH). He is an ordained bishop in the Church of God. Currently, he serves as an adjunct instructor of Practical Theology in the Hispanic Ministries Program at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and at the University of Leadership and Ministry (UNILIMI).
José Daniel has been happily married to Socorro since 1986. They are the proud parents of three adult children: Joel (DeeAnn), Abigail (Giovanni), and Daniel (Paula), and have been blessed with three beautiful grandchildren. He has served as Senior Pastor of Central Church of God / Iglesia de Dios Central in San Antonio, Texas since August 2006.

Socorro (León) Montañez
Socorro (León) Montañez was born in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. At the age of twelve, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior during a Sunday School class. From that moment on, she faithfully served at Iglesia de Dios in South Gate, California, where she became actively involved in various ministries. She served as secretary for both the Youth Ministry and the South-Central District of Los Angeles, California, and was also a member of her local church’s music group, developing a lifelong passion for worship and Christian service.
Socorro has devoted her life to serving God, her family, and the Church. Since 1986, she has been happily married to Dr. José Daniel Montañez, Senior Pastor of Central Church of God. Together they have built a Christ-centered home, raising their three children: Joel (DeeAnn), Abigail (Giovanni), and Daniel (Paula). Today, they are blessed to be the grandparents of three wonderful grandchildren who bring great joy to their lives.
Throughout the years, God has allowed Socorro to serve in a variety of administrative and ministry roles. She worked as secretary for the Hispanic Theological Initiative (HTI) in Decatur, Georgia, and later at the Hispanic Institute of Ministry of the Church of God in Dallas, Texas, where she served for five years, supporting the training and preparation of pastors and ministry leaders for the Kingdom of God.
Professionally, Socorro earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in 2014.
Since August 2006, Socorro has faithfully served alongside her husband at Central Church of God in San Antonio, Texas. For 14 years, she led the Women’s Discipleship Ministry, encouraging and equipping women to discover and develop their God-given gifts for Christian service. She currently serves as advisor to the Women’s Ministry, providing guidance, encouragement, and support. Her ministry is characterized by faithful service and continues to contribute to the spiritual growth of the church and the community.
Administrative Assistant
Debra (Ortiz) Raygoza
Debbie has been a devoted member of Central Church of God since 1964.
Her deep connection to the church stems from a rich family legacy of faith and service. Her grandparents, Juan and María Ortiz, were the founding members of the congregation, launching the church in 1946 in their own home near the current building. At the time, it was known as Iglesia de Dios “Calles.” Following in their footsteps, Debbie’s parents, Juan and Olga Ortiz, were also faithful members who served the congregation for many years until they were called to be with the Lord.
Over the years, Debbie has faithfully served the church in various capacities. She has been a youth leader, a worship leader, and a steward of the church’s finances. Currently, she continues her service as the church treasurer and administrative assistant, bringing dedication and care to every role she takes on.
Debbie has been happily married to her husband, Hector Raygoza, since 1987. Together, they have raised four wonderful sons: Esteban (Katelyn), Gabriel (Kimberly), Daniel, and Samuel. God has also blessed their family with five beautiful grandchildren, who bring immense joy to their lives. Debbie’s life is a testament to her unwavering faith, her commitment to her family, and her dedication to the church community.
